A significant pilgrimage for hindus, Gangotri is a sacred place which has also been wooing tourists and trekkers with its ultimate beauty. It houses a few of the most beautiful places here which make you feel in paradise when you visit here. If Hindu legends are to be believed, Goddess Ganga came down here when Lord Shiva released its pure and pristine water from his hair. 1. Harsil

And if you want to find your answers, you should visit Harsil which is also called as Uttarakhand’s Camper Bay. Those looking for peace and serenity cold feel blessed here in the lap of Himalayas. It is situated on River Bhagirathi’s banks at 2620 metre height above sea level. This comes as one of the best attractions if you are looking for an adrenaline rush! It’s 25 kilometre from Gangotri.

Harsil is an ideal place if you are looking for an andrenaline rush. The other village Dharali situated nearby is also frequently visited by tourists to view its pristine beauty. A Shiva temple is yet other famous attraction here. However, there are limited accommodation camps and very few budget hotels.

2. Gangotri Temple

A starting point of River Ganga, it is situated at a height of 3100 meres above sea level on the shores of Bhagirathi river. Here devotees worship Goddess Ganga. It is a 300-year-old shrine with was initially constructed by Gorkha commander Amar Singh Thapa. Later on, the temple got renovated in 19th century by Jaipur king. You will find lot many ashrams, shrines and temples at this location. It needs to be furnished here that the Temple of Gangotri Dham is closed during winters.

3. Gaumukh

Gaumukh comprises the original source of the most pious river, Ganga and is situated 19 kilometre from Gangotri. You will be stunned and surprised to see the beautiful views from this location as there are snow covered mountains around. It’s a paradise for trekkers as one needs to trek on the mountains to reach their destination which is Gaumukh.  It is situated at an elevation of12,960 ft and hence presents a stunning view.

4. Ganges Glacier

This is yet again another paradise for trekkers as they have the opportunity to trek up to Nandanvan, Tapovan and Gaumukh.

It is situated at a height of 4238 metre above sea level and starts at Chaukhamba and later on merges with Gaumukh. Ganges water is pure and has rich mineral content. If you keep this water for years, there won’t be any traces of contamination as it flows through the terrain of medicinal plants.

5. Dodi Tal

Dodi Tal comes along with scenic location and is home to the renowned Himalayan trouts. It is a sparkling lake which is situated at a height of 3204 metre. You will find lot many log cabins scattered around the lake. Here you will find many options for camping and resting also. Those interested for fishing can take permission from the Divisional Forest Officer. For trekkers, there is another option to trek along the 16-kilometre stretch which passes through Agoda and Kalyani.
