5 Places to Visit in Alwar

Alwar comes packed with a beauty of flora and fauna. There are mysterious links attached to it which exist in the form of all-famous Bhangarh Fort. The history of Alwar dates back to 1500 BC and it has been a Rajput state for many years. It later on went to Sultans in 12 and 13th century respectively. However, Maharaja Pratap Singh, in 1771 AD, won it back and founded his own state here. He was a Kachwaha Rajput. Under his guidance, art and culture crossed many milestones and flourished to its epitome. Here are a few attractions of the town:

1. Bhangarh Fort

This fort encompasses beautiful havelis and temples. A medieval fort, it maintains a Natural beauty, and comes loaded with natural springs. You can also see many banyan trees and waterfalls here. One among the oldest fort, it is 2 hours’ drive from Jaipur. It was constructed in 1573 when Bhagwant Das was the ruler, for residential purpose of his second son, Madho Singh. Existing as a ruined town between Jaipur and Agra, it is thronged by many tourists. Entry is prohibited after sunset till sunrise. However, during the day time, many tourists flock to see the palace.

2. Bala Quila Fort

Situated 1000 feet above the Alwar City, the Bala Quila Fort looks majestic with 15 large towers. It also owns 51 small towers while the complete structure has been decorated with exquisite work of marble columns along with balconies and lattice window.

There is a fabulous tale of how this fort came to Kachwaha Rajputs. Initially, it was handed over to Marathas from Mughals and then it went to Jats and finally it landed to Kachwaha Rajputs. You need to take SP’s permission before visiting this fort.

3. Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary

If you want to visit grasslands, deciduous and dry forests, rocky landscape and sheer cliffs, then Sariska Tiger Reserve is the best place to visit which is spread over 800 sq. metre of area within the stretch of Aravali Hills.

There are many activities you can be engaged in such as enjoying camel safaris, shopping in surrounding places, exploring medieval palaces or visiting the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary.

4. Siliserh Lake Palace

Once upon a time, Siliserh lake Palace has been a royal palace. It also enjoyed the tag of a hunting lodge however, it was converted into a heritage hotel which is being looked after by Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) these days.

You will be amazed to see the beauty of Siliserh Lake situated near the palace, which is spreading on 10.5 square kilometers. Boat rides are also available here.

5. Vijay Mandir Palace

This palace was constructed by Maharaja Jai Singh who loved art and architecture. He had various whims out of which owning a passion for beautiful palaces was the main one. Hence this palace came into existence following one of his whims. Vijay mandir Palace is located 10 km from center of city. There are 105 rooms in the palace. There is a famous Ram temple which is thronged by thousands of devotees on Ramnavmi.
