6 Places to Visit in Bilaspur

The second largest city in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, and a hot spot for commerce and business, Bilaspur, also one of the 100 smart cities to be developed under Smart Cities Mission is a place of sorts for tourists to visit.

How to get there?

  • By air: Bilaspur can be reached via the nearest airport which is the Raipur airport.
  • By train: Many trains which ply on the BSP, Kargi road and, Dadhapara railway stations are well connected to other major cities.
  • By bus: There are many buses that ply from and to the Bilaspur bus station.

1. Amarkantak

Formerly known as the Riksha Parvat, the Mythologically significant town of Amarkantak is the ‘king of pilgrimages’. Treat yourself to the scenic beauty of this place where three rivers viz Narmada, Son, Johila emerge. Amarkantak is a place palatable not only to the religious but also to those who seek tranquil rendezvous with the wilderness. Temples like the Kapildhara temple, Narmada Kund are famous. It is also a famous hill station and can be reached by air with the Jabalpur and Raipur Airports being the nearest.

2. Mahamaya Temple (Ratanpur)

The Mahamaya temple or Mahamaya Dham of Bogribari is situated in the town of Ratanpur 25km away from the city of Bilaspur on the Bilaspur-Ambikapur state highway. This cultural heritage is known not only for the spiritual awakening but also for the architecture, it is of the Nagara style of architecture and resides beside a huge water tank. This temple dedicated to Goddess Mahamaya looks enrapturing during Navarathri, when the Jyotikalasha is lit to please the goddess.

3. Malhar

A pivotal archeological site, a relished whirlpool of ancient culture, the small town of Malhar is located at about 40km from Bilaspur and can be reached by many buses that ply from Bilaspur.

While the framework of this place looks obdurate, the spirituality infused in this place owing to the presence of various temples like the Pataleshwar temple famous for the Gomukhi Shivlinga, the Didneshwari temple, the intricately carved idols found in Deor temple is just something one cannot oversee.
