City Information of Bangalore India - Bangalore city lies on the Mysore Plateau
in the south-western Karnataka. This capital city of the state of Karnataka
is often called the 'Garden city of India'. It is believed that it has derived
it names from 'Bendakalooru' meaning the town of boiled beans, given by King
Veera Ballara of Vijaynagar. Founded by the Magadi Chieftain, Kempegowda, Bangalore
has developed into one of the leading commercial and indutrial cities over the
centuries. Today it houses a large number of computer hardware and software
companies together with the many public sector undertakings and has earned the
title of the 'Silicon Valley of India'. The Cubbon Park, Lal Bagh, Tipu's Fort,

Lalbagh Botanical Garden - This marvelous botanical garden was built by
Hyder Ali in 1760 and beautified subsequently by his son Tipu Sultan.
Spreading over an area of 100 hectares, it has several attractive features
such as a glass house similar to the crystal palace in London, fountains,
artificial lake and deer park. It also has a captivating rose garden with
more than 150 species of roses.
» Vidhana Soudha - This magnificent granite
structure made in Dravidian style is home to the State Legislature and the
Secretariat. The imposing huge sandalwood door of the Cabinet room is a
remarkable feature of this dignified building.
» Bull Temple - This marvellous temple is situated
in the Bugle hill and is devoted to Lord Nandi'. It was built by Kempegowda
in the Dravidian style. The huge statue of Lord Nandi in the temple is an
ancient monolithic stone sculpture measuring 6.2m in height.
» Ulsoor Lake - It is situated amidst the city.
Spreading over 1.5 sq.km expanse of serene waters, the lake offers thrill
and excitement to the visitors from far and wide. Pretty island in the lake
makes its more attractive. It is a perfect place for boating and eye
feasting.
Climate
Bangalore City - It enjoys salubrious climate throughout the year. Temperature rarely
exceeds 34 degree celsius during summers. January is the coldest month in
Bangalore with the seldom fall in temperature to 20 degree celsius.
How to reach
Bangalore is connected by rail, road and air with several major cities. It
is a major railway junction on the Southern Railway and is connected to the
rest of the county by regular train services. It also has a large bus
terminal with convenient and frequent buses plying within the city.
Bangalore also has an airport, 13 km from the city with flights to all
important cities.

Bangalore city has several supermarkets and shopping malls at the M.G.Road,
Brigade Road, Commercial Street and Majestic area. One can buy Lambani
jewellery, Mysore silk saree and items made of sandalwood, rose, brass and
ivory.
